Many of my trips into other cultures and environments have changed my life forever. There is something fascinating to me to be able to document the stories and lives of other places and people through my lens.

I love the feeling of a fresh start, a clean slate to wipe past failures away. To learn from yesterday so that today I can fulfill my purpose God has for me. Tomorrow is not promised. When really analyzed it changes my thinking and my actions.

At the close of a year I get busy on my "new goals" list along with my theme for the new year.
Last year my theme was "GROW". It meant so many things for my life and motivated me along the way. This year I wanted to build on this and chose "COMMITMENT" for my new theme.
(Commitment~ an act of committing to a change; dedication, application.)
It is the perfect follow up to a year filled with growth, of taking steps forward rather than backwards.
Now it is time to be diligent and committed into following through with these desires and goals.

One of my goals is to re-commit to our blog. Though God had bigger plans than photography for us in 2011 and at times I got overwhelmed (and even discouraged) with juggling my full time job and photography. I aim to stay dedicated to keeping photography a passion in my life. First and foremost I commit it to the Lord and want to serve His kingdom. Beyond that will be the cherry on top. I am excited for what He has in store for me this year. I commit to documenting my journey in 2012!

Love Thy Neighbor

Since the day we met the Garcias they have been warm, welcoming, and friendly. And this past weekend's shoot is further confirmation of how loving their family is... We spent a relaxed Sunday at La Jolla Cove playing in the sand/water, looking at seals, and hanging out with this fun family. Frank and Tiani are good leaders and their qualities come through in all of their children - kindness, silliness, and love for each other. It was wonderful to be a part of their interactions. Analiya... What more can we say about this little Wonder that the pictures don't? She's daddy's little girl...Our bike riding buddy, Tristian. He's the coolest kid around. During the shoot we found an interesting urban backdrop... perfect for taking solos of the teenagers, Nena and Nico. By the way, Nico recently won Homecoming King at his high school. Congrats Nico!Family is truly a blessing from God...

Today is 10~10~10. This wasn't planned but completes this perfect day.
We spent the afternoon at La Jolla Cove with a fabulous couple and their family to help document their milestone of TEN beautiful years of marriage.

Matthew is adorable. fun. energetic. growing fast. did I mention energetic. and our precious little nephew.
We had a fun unplanned photo shoot documenting his one of kind smile and energy I wish I could have just one ounce of.
In the blink of an eye he is going to be all grown up and we are thankful we had a chance to stop time if only for a second.Daddy's Boy... If you didn't know already, Tony & I work our photo shoots together using a variety of lenses covering the day from a totally different angle as the other. Sometimes we have an assistant along to help but today we were all on our own juggling two shoots at one time. This was a first (and last) for us and not totally planned. We have been trying to photograph our nephew for months now and it just so happened Albert & Kathy made it over to visit us the same day we were shooting the "After Session" for Josh & Nony's Wedding Portrait Pics. Since both shoots were really casual we made it work and had a lot of fun doing it.
A special thanks to Tony for working extra hard to make this happen.

I love making new years resolutions even though I know by March they will have faded out; and I will feel like I have failed at accomplishing my big goals for the year. This fact however doesn't stop me from "Failing Forward" and trying anyways.

A couple of years ago I wanted to motivate myself into reading more. So I had this great idea to start a book club with some family and friends. I thought it would be fun to be exposed to new books I would never have picked out and also thought it was a great way to stay accountable to my goal of reading at least 12 books for the year.

As many resolutions go we started off on the right foot. Everyone was just as excited as I was and finished their books on time for our monthly club meeting. Over some yummy grub we analyzed our discussion questions, talked about life and just enjoyed each other's company. It was turning out to be far more than I had even imagined when I got the idea and I was touched. These kind of things in life are what make me go round. Relationships. Analyzing life.

This lasted for a few months and then something happened. What exactly I couldn't tell you. Maybe the busyness of life or a bad book choice by someone, or maybe simply the curse of the New Years Resolutions? All I know is somewhere along the way we lost our footing and our fabulous club came to an end. One of these days I would love to find a new group that is interested in helping me see it through. In the meantime I started my own personal book club resolution for 2010. With the same goal in mind to read at least 12 books for the year but this time I am accountable to me, myself & I.

Here are some of my reads so far...
January: Failing Forward by John C. Maxwell (this is my 4th time reading this book. It never gets old. This book changed my life a decade ago)
February: tuesdays with Morrie By Mitch Albom (Tear jerker. My inspiration for my very own Tuesdays with Danny here on my blog.)
March:Breaking Trail a climbing life by Arlene Blum (Very inspirational! Defeat is not bitter unless you swallow it. ~Joe Clark)
April: Angelina Jolie's: Notes from My Travels by Angelina Jolie (I have been a huge Angelina Jolie fan since HS and I am moved by her passions and what she is doing in other countries. She is a very misunderstood person despite some of her poor choices in life)
May: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (thanks Brenda for this one. I loved it. Couldn't put it down)
My next book I am starting for June is The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck

Oh I cannot forget to mention The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian. Michaela one of my bride's told me about this book and I have been so blessed by it. As soon as I finish it, I start it right back over and plan to continue to do this for years to come.

I dedicate this weeks Tuesdays with Danny to my little brother Joshy who isn't so little anymore. Congratulations Joshy, your wedding was so real and perfect. Josh married Marayat (Nony) Sunpichai this Sunday, May 16th in a traditional Thai ceremony. Stayed tuned for more details and photos.

His name is Joshua Nathaniel Reedy and he is very special. He is the baby of the family and one of my closest friends. We share this bond that is hard to put into words. All I can say is that I adore him to pieces and cannot imagine life without him.
Through the years we have amazing memories together. But, I am especially fond of our travels to far off places or our scuba diving accomplishments together. These are memories that I hold dear and close to me. As we reach new chapters in our lives I wanted to document my adoration for him and express how much this kid means to me. I LOVE YOU! I am so happy to be a part of your special day and you couldn't have found a more beautiful person inside and out. Nony we love you and welcome you to our family. Tony and I look forward to many more years of adventures and memories. Thank you for being YOU!

A Lifetime of Devotion

Beautiful Moments

Today is a special day. Today is my dad's birthday. Today is a beautiful moment for me that I want to remember forever. Let me give you a brief background on why it is so important for me to document and never forget.
In early 2005 my father had a massive heart attack while driving to work on just an ordinary day of the week. When we received the call we didn't know if he was alive or not. That phone called changed my life forever. A miracle happened that day as the Dr's said he was minutes away from dying. God however wasn't done with His plan for my dad's life and for that I am thankful. I am thankful I have more time to live in the NOW with him and enjoy every moment I can with him.
This event shook me to the core as I had never thought about life without my parents before. Boy, was it a scary thought.
I am thankful that something so horrible can be used for a good thing. It is a reminder to me of many of life's lessons and the kind of thinking God wants drawn out of us in ALL situations both good and bad. To see beyond our immediate circumstances and draw near to Him to find the answers. To break through the layers.

Time continues to go at warp speed and though 5 years have passed there isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank God for His continued second chances at experiencing beautiful moments with my loved ones.

My dad has an obsession with plants. Really, seriously! There is no other way to put it. So my mom came up with a great plan to surprise him for his birthday. We loaded up and went for a drive to LA to the The Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanic Gardens. He loved it and we shared in many beautiful moments that warm my heart. Moments no longer taken for granted. Moments of God's magnificent beauty in every direction we turned.

So blessed to have such a wonderful, funny, giving, quirky, loving, amazing father who can fix anything! Yes, my daddy can fix anything.Beauty like I have never seen. Literally this peacock brought tears to my eyes as it's feathers brushed across my body. I get chills still thinking about it.

Happy Birthday to the best dad in the world!!! We love you more than words can describe and thank you for everything you do.

Since I was little I have been obsessed with sayings, quotes, music lyrics, scriptures. I am an over analyzer. Ask anyone close to me. Always have been so I tend to gravitate to things that make me wonder and question life; things that make me remember and appreciate life; and things that make me challenged to be a better person, to have a better life.
Since I have a dozen of journal books filled with such sayings, quotes, lyrics and scriptures that I have compiled since a little girl, I thought it would be nice to start adding some to the blog. Simply for inspiration and a reminder to me through this journey called life. Hope you enjoy.

Soles4Souls

Life is hard isn't it? It doesn't always have a happy ending like the movies try to fool us with. It is simply just not always easy or fair for that matter. But so often times I can get caught up in my difficulties and struggles and feel like it is the end of the world until I am reminded of how blessed I truly am. How I have never really known hunger. How I have always had a roof over my head and clothes to wear. I am reminded that someone always has it worse, much worse.
Sometimes when I step back from my world I feel so ridiculous even embarrassed for even worrying about such selfish things. Let's be honest, I could go on for days listing the ridiculous things we can worry about. And even though I strive to be a better person making a difference in this world; I can get caught up in all this. So when an opportunity presents itself to have less of me and more of helping others I am moved to take action. Moved to actually get out there and do something that can really make a difference and spread the love of Christ. Sometimes these opportunities are right under our noses. Maybe a lonely loved one needs your comfort or a hurting friend needs a shoulder to cry on and then sometimes opportunities present themselves to help out a complete stranger. Helping our loved ones comes easy but I challenge you to open your hearts to complete strangers and make a difference in their lives. You will be surprised at how much it ends up making a difference in your life!

Happy Birthday to a Special Someone!!

People come in and out of your life but sometimes your paths cross with a very special person. A person you know is special right from the start. A person you know that has sooo much to offer this world. Sara is just that kind of person. I know God had our paths cross intentionally and for that I am thankful. Amazed really. Amazed at His master plan for our lives.

Sara is taking on photography with an amazing amount of passion at her age. I am so honored to be mentoring her through these major life decisions as she approaches her senior year in High School. A little bit of guidance, encouragement, and belief in another can do miracles. If I could help her make at least one less mistake than I did then I know we are on the right path. I am excited to see what is around the corner for Sara.

Tax Day

I am a procrastinator and so is Tony. We work better under pressure. It's just the way things are around here. So needless to say we here at Forever Keep Photography were scrambling around trying to meet the dreaded tax deadline and trying at all costs to avoid the line at the Post Office. To our surprise there was nobody in line at all. I was shocked! Fortunately for us we must be the only procrastinators out there.
Here is a photo of what the boys were doing while we were finishing getting it all put together. Apparently doing our taxes wears us all out.On a brighter note Free Starbucks coffee all day today when you bring in your own cup. I am more of a tea drinker myself but thought I would spread the love. If only they were offering free Apple Chai Infusions. Now that is a line I would be willing to stand in.

DIY: Cricut Machine Signs

I am going to start featuring a new series called DIY. I am constantly doing projects both personally and for my business. So I thought it would be fun to share some of them.
Let me start of by introducing you to the Cricut Machine. "Cricut" meet the world. World meet the "Cricut". If you haven't heard about this most awesome machine ever then check it out here.Tony got me this machine with several cartridges and a cool storage bag for our first Christmas together back in 2006. He sure won me over that afternoon. He went to a lot of trouble to get it and I have to say he completely melted my heart. Every time I use it I think of him which is just an added bonus. It is funny how an inanimate object can put such a big smile on my face.

I got this DIY project idea when I looked around our laundry room and saw that it was in need of a facelift. Nothing too fancy but just something to liven things up a bit and get things organized. I decided to help keep me motivated in staying on top of the endless piles I would make cute little signs for each of the baskets I use to sort our laundry.
I chose a colorful polka dot 12x12 paper for the base of my signs and cut it into thirds. Then I punched 2 holes on each end for the ribbon. I then chose a solid matching cardstock which I used to cut out the letters in the Cricut Machine. I cut out letters on my Storybook Cartridge to spell "whites", "towels" and "darks".Then I used foam square adhesives to create a 3D look on the signs. Then I ran the ribbon through the 2 holes I punched out earlier on the sides and tied them to the baskets.Then I finally hung up all my cute laundry room antique decorations that have been sitting in a box adding to the clutter. The project only took me 45 minutes from start to finish including hanging up the decorations. The before and after made it look like a completely new room. Stayed tuned for my next project. The Sun, the Moon, & the Stars....

The Sun, the Moon, & the Stars were definitely lined up. God is soooo good. He totally gives us the desires of our hearts even when we are least expecting it. I have been wanting ALL of Swiss Miss Designs Haus card & album templates by Amy Wenzel for a couple of years now but just haven't had the funds to get them. When I saw that Leah with Go{4}Pro was hosting this giveaway I was excited but not too excited as I am not one of those people who wins things. So I said a little prayer and followed the giveaway rules.
Then Wednesday morning I got the biggest surprise when I opened up my email. My eyes could not believe what I saw before me. Could it be true? Me, the winner? Somebody pinch me. I let out a loud scream of joy. My heart melted and it totally made my day.
I cannot wait to design my first album with Amy's awesome templates.

There is another cool part to this story. I was winner number 18. So What!, you say? Well this was just the icing on the cake for me. 18 is a very special number for me. Read here for more details. I believe this was God's extra little thumbprint to remind me to give Him the glory!

I am crossing my fingers...

Glowing Candice

We recently moved into a great neighborhood. It is a pretty quiet area with beautiful landscapes in every direction of our house. One of our favorite things is that we live on a cul-de-sac that only has houses on one side of the street so our views from the front and backyard are beautiful. But our most favorite thing is that we our surrounded with great neighbors. It is such a nice change from our old place. We have had fun getting to know them and recently I got the chance to photograph our neighbor Candice who is now 11 weeks pregnant with their first child.
Hogan and Candice are an adorable couple. Hogan is serving in the Marines and has the kindest heart ever. He recently got back from his deployment in Iraq. They are finally getting a chance to enjoy each other as they hadn't been married too long before he had to leave. We were so excited when they told us of their good news. They are going to make wonderful parents.

I am going to shoot a Maternity Session in a few months when she is really showing but I thought it would be fun to casually document her progress monthly. Here is a few shots of Candice at 11 weeks.

I have been battling a chronic illness for about 10 years now and I was completely moved when I first read David's story. Simply through his unshakable faith & positive spirit. And from Amy's raw, real words in sharing your story. I find inspiration in your words to look past my obstacles, to trust in God's sovereignty & make a difference in spite of. To rejoice in it.

Tuesdays With Danny

Today we had breakfast with a very special couple in our life, Fred and Pat. My parents have known them for over 30 years and they have watched me grow up.
Recently Tony and I have been able to spend time with them reminiscing in old stories, sharing in new ones, and sharing in some laughter and tears. We know it isn't by accident that we have crossed each other's paths again in life. God's perfect plan never ceases to amaze me.
This is especially important to us as you see Fred was diagnosed with the terrible disease of Alzheimer's several years ago. Fred is a wonderful, loving, sensitive man who brings joy to anyone who comes into contact with him. He just has this way about him that makes you want to just give him a big hug and sit and listen to his stories and experiences in life for hours at a time. He is so interesting and wise.
Tony and I look forward to every opportunity we get to be around him and Pat. Their faith is strong and through this new chapter in their lives they are pressing forward with smiles as to what God has in store for them. I admire their strength and positive focus they have on holding on to every last moment and memory Fred still has rather than focusing on what short term memory he is losing.
They have been married 54 years and are such an example of what I want to be like when I get older. Wise and graceful!

Losing my grandmother to this disease , I feel especially sympathetic to what they are going through and hope we can add something to their lives as they do to ours. So today I dedicate this post to Fred & Pat. We love you and are here for you! Love, Tony & Danielle

Challenge for the week

Today was a perfect Sunday. We got to sleep in with our boys Mac & Jonas all curled up next to us. Then we rushed off to the late service at church and prepared our hearts for what the Lord had in store for us. Boy, was it refreshing. Worship was a.m.a.z.i.n.g.!! Romantic time with our precious Lord and Savior. Then communion, then our message.
It was about "Marriage" and our priorities. God first! Spouse second! Pastor John gave us a challenge for the next seven days: to hold each others hands and just simply pray together. What a great way to start our week. I pray for balance with my priorities as they so easily get off track. The beauty of a new day, a fresh start!

Happy 4th Dating Anniversary. Our favorite of them all. Where has the time flown off to? Remembering back to March 4th, 2006 puts the biggest smile on my face. The long drive, the bread incident, the long open raw talks, our innocent friendship. Our Serendipitous meeting that was planned all along but we just hadn't got the memo yet. The unexpected. My "keeping it real". "ARE WE GOING TO JUST KEEP PRETENDING?"
Isn't it crazy the roller coaster that life brings but knowing we are strapped in side by side together somehow makes it so much less scarier. Knowing that together with the help of our precious heavenly Father we can get through the ride of life.You complete me and I love hitting these milestones with you. I cannot wait to grow old with you.

Tuesdays With Danny

I am a deep thinker. An over analyzer really. I am that girl that asks why about everything. I have been this way since I was a little girl. I can remember being 5 years old and my Godfather, Syl would sit me down on his knee and ask me well "have you had a little chat with yourself today?". I have a photo of me on his knee on my dresser to remind me about all my little chats with myself. Every time I look at this photo I can still hear his voice, I can still hear my thoughts. The thoughts and questions about life. The why's that often times would go unanswered. I am learning to live with it. With the many unanswered questions. I am learning to realize that sometimes it just doesn't matter. I am learning to let go, to not waste energy on things I cannot change. But I am also learning that all these questions and thoughts are simply just life. It is teaching me to have more faith.

I recently finished reading Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I couldn't put this book down. Through tears, laughter and joy I was inspired. I was reminded of being five years old and having "little chats with myself". The thoughts and inspirations that this book brought to me gave me an idea to start Tuesdays with Danny (my childhood nickname) and put myself out there to cyberspace. To make me crawl out of my little hole and take chances. To "Fail Forward". It will be a window into my world of thoughts, things and people that inspire me. Ramblings of my "little chats with myself".
Syl, I dedicate this first Tuesday's with Danny post to you. For always being there for me since I was a "little papoose". Your words of wisdom, love, and utter belief in me no matter what have played an important role in who I am today. I am so thankful and blessed to have you in my life. I love you very much. Palm Desert Scrapbooking Weekend

Elaine is one of my parents friends they met through their Woodie Club. Over the years I have had the pleasure of getting to know her and some of the other ladies as we all have scrapbooking in common.
They have all attended my Big Bear Retreat and Elaine had such a good time she thought it would be fun for her to host a mini retreat out at her condo in Palm Desert.
We finally were able to get all of our schedules on track and made it happen. Elaine was the hostess with the mostess! We had the best weekend ever. Her condo sits right on the beautiful golf course. The weather was perfect and I had the best seat in the house. I got to look out on the rolling green golf course and beautiful clear desert mountains all around. It looked like a scene from a post card.

For those of you that don't scrapbook you are probably thinking we are crazy and well you may be on to something this is one of my favorite pastimes.
Creative Memories has been a huge part of my life and I think it is a great accent to my photography business. Being able to teach others how to preserve their memories and tell their stories through photos and albums is what makes me go round. But the best part of it all is truly the people I have met through my business and the friendships that have come along the way. Many thanks to Elaine for opening up your beautiful place to us and for worrying about every last detail. You did a perfect job! We look forward to the next one.

Jack Baur & Home Cooked Meals

It's just our thing we do. Monday night football is a thing of my past. I have hung up my Chargers jersey and seasons tickets and have moved onto bigger and better things. Like Jack Baur, a good ol' fashioned home cooked meal, my wonderful husband, Tony and two scrumptious boys (if you know me by now "my boys" refers to our two Jack Russell Dogs, Mac & Jonas).

Monday nights is "our" time. It is our time we spend laying cuddled up with a soft blanket and a full tummy with "the boys" sprawled out all over us. Our time to be sitting at the edge of our seats until we get through another episode of 24. Our time to babble about whatever we want, okay whatever I want and Tony listen with undivided attention. Our time to be thankful for ALL that God has blessed us with especially each other and our wonderful boys. Marriage isn't always easy and we think it is very important to set aside some time weekly just for each other (and okay there is always room for Jack).

My niece, Kiana spent the night with us and we had a fun evening playing Super Mario Bros. on our Wii, dancing to the Black Eyed Peas, going to dinner, racing each other at sudoku and just simply enjoying life and each other. It was a perfect evening.

Sweet Dylan Jean

Mondays is grandma time for Linda. She spends every Monday afternoon down at the park on Los Rios Street with her precious granddaughter Dylan Jean. So it was easy choosing a location for their portrait session. What better place to document Dylan Jean than in an environment she is comfortable in. She is only two so I am sure our big camera gear wasn't the friendliest thing but she adjusted very well. She has the sweetest, most precious spirit and I wanted to be sure I captured this for Linda through my lens. The afternoon flew by and I am sure we wore her out.

Thanks Linda for trusting me with the honor of capturing Dylan Jean. You both did amazing. And I must state the obvious Dylan Jean was so adorable and photogenic, but you my dear looked absolutely gorgeous!

Growing Old Gracefully

They say twenties is the new thirties right? I don't know what it is but hitting my thirties hasn't been too bad. There is something about saying goodbye to your childhood and awkward twenties where you are frantically trying to find yourself.
Maybe that is why turning twenty-five was my hardest birthday. I think it was that I had so much expectations on myself and hadn't reached all that I wanted to by that age so I freaked. Literally I freaked out. Fell off the deep end, okay maybe just fell out of a plane. I went skydiving on my twenty fifth birthday. I thought this would some how make up for lost time. Time I had wasted on finding myself doing stupid things, time I had wasted on not so good people in my life, time being what others wanted me to be rather than being who I truly was. You ask, did it solve all that? Not exactly but I faced a fear and a monster obstacle I never thought I could do and boy was it empowering. It changed me forever. It was the beginning of a bright future. Though I am grateful for my childhood lessons and my awkward twenties as they have shaped and molded me into who I am today but I embrace the next chapter in my life even if it means a few extra pounds and some unwanted wrinkles. Life is good because I have Christ in my life. This doesn't mean that life is going to be easy without its ups and downs but it means that I have a hope and a future in Him.
As I celebrate my thirty second birthday I am simply thankful. Thankful for all that God has blessed me with.
It has turned into my birthday month! Wowzer! I must have been a good girl this year. :) Thank you to ALL of you who made my birthday so special. You know who you are. All your planning, sneaking around, lying, giving, and labor of love has meant everything to me. To be surrounded by so much love is priceless and cannot be wrapped up in a box with a bow on top. January is the Best!

I always knew January was a special month. A new beginning, a fresh start. I may be a little biased since it's the month of my birthday too (January 18). But it became even more special after I met my husband Tony and share the honor of celebrating his parents wedding anniversary on the 16th and then his mother's birthday on the 17th.

Tony and I are both blessed with parents that are still married, in love and have reached milestones in their marriages. They have been incredible examples to what a marriage and commitment truly is. We are so thankful for their examples.

Santa's Little Helper...NOT

I got this wild & crazy idea in my mind the other day that I was going to be like Santa's little helper and bake my heart away. My mom does this every year and makes it look so easy. So in an effort to stop mooching off her greatness and put a few tips Martha Stewart has taught me along the way to practice I gathered ALL my ingredients. I couldn't have just been happy with making a few dozen of one kind of cookies to give out to my loved ones. NO I had to make Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Sugar Cookies, Ginger Snaps, Lemon Cookies, Brownies, Pumpkin bread and muffins. I started at 4:00 in the afternoon and did not turn the oven off until 4:00 am. I was saving the Oatmeal cookies to do last since they are Tony's favorites and I never even got to make them. How sad is that. :( He even stayed up with me all night. It was heart breaking when he came into the kitchen to taste an oatmeal cookie and they were no where to be found. He thinks I have lost my mind. I think he is right. Let's just say that this will not be becoming a tradition. Sorry to disappoint mom. Another case and point of your amazingness. Looks like my mooching days are here to stay.

This morning I went to a special award ceremony for a special girl in my life. She is not only my niece but Kiana is my buddy. I adore every last minute I am blessed to spend with her. She truly is an amazing girl. This award is extra special because Kiana has started her last year of elementary at a new school, in a new town away from all her friends. Struggles and Butterflies...

One day a little girl found the cocoon of a butterfly with a small slit at the end. She sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to squeeze its body though that little hole. Then it stopped, as if it could go no further.
So the girl decided to help the butterfly. She took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
She continued to watch the butterfly because she expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body. Neither happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its shortened life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.
What the little girl, in her kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings. And once the butterfly achieved its freedom from the cocoon it would then be ready to fly.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!

Marines

Cynthia Martinez with Words of Comfort, Hope & Promise asked if I would like to photograph a special day for the Marines. I was honored to take part. I called my buddy Sara Kross to see if she wanted to tag along with me.
The event was held at Camp Pendleton. This is the 4th event I have covered and it never ceases to amaze me all the volunteers that come out to support the men and women who are sacrificing their lives for our freedoms. The freedoms we so often take advantage of. Sara and I were touched by so many lives and look forward to the next event.
Churches banned together and set up booths with food, games, free services, massages, jewelry, desserts, etc. There was a bounce house and slides for the kids to petting zoos and pony rides. There was entertainment throughout the entire day along with amazing raffle prizes (which were ALL donated). Karaoke sing off contest, line dancing contest, watermelon and pie eating contest to volleyball tournament and Tug-A-War. It turned out to be a huge success. They rolled out the red carpet for their grand entrance to the event. The hundreds of volunteers were shouting "thank you" and shaking their hands as they came through. It is hard to describe those moments in words. The Trabuco High School Cheerleaders came out to show their support. It was so awesome to be standing up on the stage looking down at the huge crowd as the ceremonies began they opened up in prayer. Heads were bowed, the beach was still. It was a very special moment one I am very thankful for. I was reminded of all the freedoms we are blessed to have.Petting Zoo and Pony Rides...Tug-A-War...Watermelon eating contest...Pie eating contest... Cynthia has devoted herself to these men and women. She is always looking for volunteers. Kross Family

I love family portrait time. It is always a challenge getting large groups together with all the different personalities. Some have big ones, others are shy, others who hate being in front of the camera, some are goof balls. All of these dynamics are what make family sessions so much fun. It is my job to not only get some great shots but to have the family work together and most importantly to have FUN!
The Kross family is all of that and more. They were up for anything and just happy to be all together. I treasure this family. The love that starts from the top and trickles down to the siblings and on to all their other relationships is truly a blessing. I love how each sibling looks out for each other and still enjoys spending time together. God definitely had our paths cross for a reason. We will forever be touched by this beautiful family. I often look through magazines for different ideas and poses to keep things interesting and have been anxiously waiting to try out a bubbles idea. I knew the Kross family would be the perfect candidates for this so we started off with bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles. It was the perfect thing to loosen everyone up. I cannot wait until next years session or maybe even an engagement session. wink, wink! :)

Pumpkin Squares

My favorite time of the year is Fall. The smell of pumpkin spice in the air gives me the warm and fuzzies. To kick of the season I decided to put my apron on and bake one of my favorite recipes.
For those who know me they know it is going to take a lot of practice to ever become like my mother in the kitchen but I am going to start trying to have fun doing it. I know I definitely need to keep my day job though!
Baked and ready to be cut into squares and served with a cup of hot tea. I made the recipe card in my Creative Memories Storybook 3.0 software. Stay tuned for a fun project I am working on.

Big Bear Retreat

I love traditions! Life can be so full of changes that holding on to a few things that we do year in and year out gives me the warm and fuzzies inside. One of these traditions is our annual Scrapbooking Retreat to Big Bear. Even though I am working, (my part time job as a Creative Memories Consultant) I look forward to this weekend so much. It is a jammed packed weekend of fun, food, friendships, fellowship, relaxation, projects and goals, oh did I mention food?
We stay at an amazing Bed & Breakfast called Apples. Barbara, her family & staff take such good care of us we never want to leave. For those of you that scrapbook you can understand how we can work around the clock for three days on our precious albums. If you aren't as hard core as some of us then you can take a break and head down to the lake, go shopping downtown, get a massage, take a nap, read a book, watch a movie, or just simply hang out. The weekend is all about YOU!
The food is all handmade with love by the amazing staff at Apples. They wait on you all weekend long. You never have to lift a hand. Oh, and don't plan on coming with any kind of diet agenda because you fail it in a big way! Their food is so delicious. In fact, they even came out with a cookbook you gotta have. Check it out here.
My favorite part of the weekend is getting to spend time with all my favorite gals and powering through like 75 pages. What more could a girl ask for? Traditions, Traditions...This is my 10th year coming to Big Bear! I love it!JoAnn, Elaine, Belen, Emily, Jeri, Debbie, Brenda, Sara, Maureen, Tessa, Katya, Vivianne and Tiffany thanks for coming. Cooking with Rachel & Chelsea

Good friends, good food... the perfect recipe for a wonderful day. Rachel is going to school right now to become a chef so Chelsea and I thought it would be fun to have a cooking lesson. I am no Betty Crocker but I am definitely trying to become a better cook which equals becoming a better wife.
We started off with making stuffed chili's and then prepared our dessert. Everything turned out awesome (probably because I was doing more note taking and less cooking) but the company was the best part.

I have had the honor of taking my dear friend Sara under my wing. She is a Junior at Trabuco High School and has a passion for Photography. This girl is going places, really. I wish I would have pursued my passions at her age the way she is. Look out photography world here she comes!

90 Years Young

I know, I know everyone says this but really I have the greatest grandmother in the whole wide world. For starters she has faith that can move mountains. No really. There are so many things I admire about her but I would have to say that her faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is top of the list. You can always count on her to be praying for you any day of the year.

It is hard to believe that she is 90. No one does. Her beauty is far greater than that of her precious youthful face. It goes way deeper. She just has this way about her. A gentle, kind and loving spirit that shines through her in a way that just makes you feel like the most special person in the world. We have so many memories over the years and I am looking forward to many more. I love that we have all kinds of little inside jokes like little school girls. "Wake up a little Susie" or Granny Goose. I simply adore her and treasure every last minute we are blessed to spend with her.

This photo was taken of her on her actual 90th Birthday (July 6, 2010). Crazy, huh? She doesn't even look close to 90. In fact many people in her life don't even know this tid bit of information. She still loves to drive, still has a job, still lives on her own, and she even has a roommate. She is very involved at her church. She loves to play cards (hates to lose) and is an unbelievable cook (she makes a mean tamale). But her favorite thing to do is spend time with her family, showering them with love and gifts.
She is a beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, Aunt, friend.
She touches every life she comes into contact with.My mom & Uncle Joe have been planning her surprise 90th Birthday party for some time. Tony & I were in charge of getting her to the restaurant. This was not an easy task as she is still very sharp but we managed to pull it off and boy was she surprised.
You could truly see how much she is loved by everyone who came to celebrate her life. It was a day she will never forget!

Do you believe in the promises of God so much that you are willing to go against the grain of society?

Meet Michaela and RJ. They were married just a few days ago and it was truly a special ceremony. The most precious moment was when Michaela gave her husband-to-be a purity ring, which she's worn and committed to since her teen years. The meaning was deep and hearfelt, causing many to tears (including RJ).

God is definitely good! His ways are most certainly perfect and true.
The beautiful bride having a good laugh with some of her bridesmaids. You'll have to ask her for yourself about the circumstances of this funny moment. 8~)
More laughs... this time it was the guys' turn.

He is Risen!

Shape Up or Shape Out

I just have to give a shout out to Doug and Janece. Doug is the owner of the wonderful Shape Up Fitness Center & Day Spa in the beautiful Corona Del Mar.
We have been attending Doug's spin class and it is a breathe of fresh air. He is so good at what he does. He kicks you in the butt without you knowing about it until class is over and it is too late to do anything about it. I love how he makes it not just about spinning, or working out but how he ties life into your journey. Oh and thanks Doug for the techno/trance music you sneak in for me despite Janece's efforts. You rock!

If you are in the area you will definitely want to go check out Shape Up.
Janece is an awesome trainer. Doing a workout with her is a blast. She means business but knows how to let you have fun while hitting it hard. Doug & Janece, Thank you for your caring about people so much. Your knowledge is so valuable. Somehow you have managed to make us look forward to Tuesdays. Go figure huh?! =)

Hollywood Walk of Fame

Our nieces and nephews were getting a little restless being out of school so we loaded up and went on little road trip adventure to Los Angeles. They had never been to "Hollywood" so we set out to show them as much as we could.
We took them down Sunset Blvd and then to Melrose. We had lunch at the famous Pink's Hot Dogs. Then to Hollywood Blvd. We only ended driving by Mann Chinese Theatre and then decided to head on down to Beverly Hills. This was the best move of the day because as we entered the beautiful streets of Beverly Hills we stumbled across a filming crew for Entourage. I had my camera ready to go (of course!) . We ended up in the middle of it all, thanks to Tony's mad driving skills. In a matter of minutes I was photographing Jeremy Piven which led to him coming up and talking to me. It was a pretty cool moment especially for all the kids. What more could we have asked for in giving them a true Hollywood experience. Plus I was especially thrilled as I love Jeremy's work. Being part Irish is really special to me. Traveling to Ireland one day to find our roots and the town named after "Reedy" (my maiden name) is something high on my list of things to do before I die.

Today is the one year anniversary of the day we welcomed our little precious boys into our family. This day a year ago changed our lives & marriage forever. Tony and I have grown so much in this past year and we owe so much of our joy to our precious boys. I recently stumbled across this poem I wrote shortly after we got them. I never would have believed that two little fur balls could have such an affect on me. Boy was I wrong.

My mom is an amazing cook. A baking queen. I know you probably think I am just saying this because well it's my mom. But I am not. Ask anyone who has ever tasted something she has touched in the kitchen. She is one of "those people" who doesn't have to follow a recipe or use measuring cups.
Her food touches your soul. She has this secret weapon that goes beyond ingredients and recipes.
When one of my assignments for my photography class was to take an environmental portrait I was instantly inspired to photograph my mother in the kitchen. She hesitantly agreed as she doesn't like being in front of the camera as much as she likes being in the kitchen. But with a little persuasion she agreed. It was such an honor to document her.

A Perfect Fit

Have you ever met two people who simply are perfect together? Let me introduce you to my beautiful cousin, Janece, and her wonderful fiance, Doug. They truly are perfect in more ways than one.
Not only do they complement each other's personalities so well but their "perfect fit"-ness pervades their entire relationship. Doug is a competitive cyclist who owns a fitness center, Shape Up of Corona Del Mar, and Janece is a personal trainer extraordinaire. On top of that... they are health food fanatics who recently introduced Tony and I to CHARD. Have you ever heard of "chard?" It's supposed to be good for you. Cooked properly, chard can be pretty tasty but let me warn you now - it will do a number on your digestive track ;) Enough about that.We've recently been able to spend some time with the happy couple and it has just been a blast. Doug has allowed us to participate in his weekly spin class (if you ever get a chance to go... #1 Remember to STRETCH! #2 Get there early because it is a popular class. and #3 Bring lots of water.), they've introduced us to Biagio's of Lake Forest (Biagio's serves some of the best pizza around), Doug has shared some wonderful organic wine (Tony thought all wine was organic until recently), Janece has introduced us to her favorite teas, and just a few days ago we had the opportunity to photograph them for their engagement at the grand estate of William Lyon in Coto De Caza.
We had so much fun on the shoot. The grounds were amazing, the subjects couldn't have been easier to photograph, romance was definitely in the air, and the perfect time spent was a natural extension of this awesome couple.Here's to you, Janece and Doug. We look forward to your wedding and to having a growing friendship with you in the years to come.

I love being able to be there for my friends and family when they need something. My loved ones are such a precious part of my life. So when my dear friend, Adrienne called and needed some head shots I was happy to do the honors.
Adrienne is truly a special lady. We share a deep connection and I am ever grateful to have a friend like her in my life.

Life is passing in the blink of an eye and here it is another year gone by. I have ALWAYS looked younger than my age. Recently I was asked "What school do you go to?" Now if they meant "what college?" it would have been a little easier to swallow but they meant what high school. Really, seriously? Well this little annoying factor all throughout my life has caused a bit of a stir in me. I am not really sure why it annoys me so much. Maybe because younger people can be looked down upon. I know this was the case for me when I entered the business world at eighteen and was a hard worker and moved up rather quickly. This didn't go over well with many "older than me" and I was always left having to prove myself that much more just to earn a little respect. As each year passes and I grow a little, just a little bit wiser I appreciate these struggles in life that have molded me into who I am today. A girl who is over 30 looks like she's at least 20 (come on) and is doing something she is passionate about everyday, married to a wonderful husband, has the greatest puppies on earth, and is surrounded by amazing family and friends. What more could a girl want for her birthday?

Mac & Jonas' 1st Birthday

It's hard to believe that it has already been a year since our wonderful boys were first born. And so much has happened this past year... our first year of marriage, the beginning of the economic crash, and the ups-and-downs of puppy training (remember this comment when looking at the 2nd to the last picture of this post). Mac and Jonas have truly been a God-sent (even when they were being rambunctious). In these times of much uncertainty our boys have reminded us of the beauty of God, the beauty of His creation, and given us glimpses of His unconditional love. We thank God for you always, boy-boys! Love, Mommy and Daddy.

The boys first vet visit. They were so good and passed with flying colors.

Mac and Jonas learned lots of tricks this past year. Mac taught himself how to fetch (I promise... all Tony did was throw the ball. He figured everything else out.), they learned sit, stay, come, shake, and to wait until they're told "ok" to eat their food or treat.

Mac "Attack" (as we sometimes call him) is enjoying the cool water on a hot day while fetching a toy.
We thought that it would be a great treat to take the boys to one of our favorite spots in Laguna Beach for their birthday. They frolicked in the sand, chased each other relentlessly, and truly had all out fun. As parents... it was a sight to behold and a memory we will always cherish.

Okay, here's the funny story... one day we decided to leave the boys home alone a little too long. Thankfully, they took out their disappointment on only two items: their pee-pee training pad and this decorative crab we had sitting by the fireplace. Go figure! Maybe they somehow blamed our lateness on the innocent wicker crustacean.

I played club soccer from the time I was in 5th grade until I graduated high school. Which means we traveled a lot for tournaments especially on holidays. Which means I cannot remember a Thanksgiving at home as a kid. We spent it on the road headed to our annual Las Vegas Turkey Shoot Invitational tournament. It became a new tradition to eat my mom's amazing homemade spread in our Dodge van with Tupperware and plastic silverware. I was thankful. Thankful for parents that sacrificed so much to allow their children to live out their dreams. Thankful that my mom loved us so much she slaved in the kitchen for days to prepare our Turkey dinner with as much love and care as if we were eating it over a candle lit table with our finest china. My heart just melts remembering the gold ol' days.
Now that we are all grown up and able to get together for Thanksgiving I am reminded of old traditions yet Thankful for the new ones. Thankful to take time out of our busy lives to just simply BE with our loved ones. To laugh and hug one another.To be blessed with an abundance of food and eat until you cannot eat no more.

Today is a special day. Today is my hubby's Birthday. The last one before he is officially over the hill. Which if you know him you know that age is only a number because he really is just a big kid at heart.
The change in economy and our lifestyle has allowed us to see what is truly important in life. Family, our puppies, each other.
We celebrated at one of our local favorite mexican joints call Casa Franco. Tony thought we were just meeting my parents but I called in all the troops. We both come from big families so we can fill up a place fast. We have 15 nieces and nephews. One of Tony's favorite things to do is spend time with them so I was especially excited when they all came out to celebrate.Tony loves playing guitar hero when he goes over to visit his nephew Nicholas so I thought it was time for him to have one all for himself. He is rocking it out! I love to see him enjoy the fun things in life. Thanks Amy for all your help to make this happen and thank you to everyone who made the night extra special. We love you all.P.S. Her beauty runs deep. Besides her obvious beauty to the eye Karla is even more beautiful inside. She just has this way about her. She always knows how to make you laugh and see the positive side to things. I admire this about her.

Karla and I go way back. I mean waaay back. Back before braces, boyfriends and SAT's. We met on the first day of school in the sixth grade. She was the cool one. I was not. Me and my bright neon fluorescent green backpack, okay bright neon fluorescent everything. We were seated in alphabetical order with Lisa Runquist in the middle of us however Lisa was out sick the first day of school. This was all part of our destiny to become friends even though I lacked any kind of coolness. We became inseparable and through the years have made the most memorable memories. We have been through good times and bad, broken hearts and life changing decisions together. I cannot tell you what an honor it was to play such an important role in her big day.

I met Tiffany Israel during my annual Big Bear Scrapbboking Retreat at Apples Bed & Breakfast. She is quiet, talented, artistic, a friend, a daughter, a photographer, and a filmmaker. She is SPECIAL!
It was really cool to be there when she received the phone call from NewFilmMakersin Los Angeles. They were calling to congratulate her on the premiere of her Documentary "Exile State".
"Exile State" is a short documentary about a young woman's (Tiffany) journey to Arizona to comfort her father about his absence and to inform him that her mother has breast cancer.
The filmmaking was done by Emily Ray. I was honored to photograph this special event in Los Angeles. There are things that happen in life when you know they were meant to be. Meeting Tiffany and her mother, Vivanne are one of those times. God has truly blessed me through these ladies. I look forward to what Tiffany has around the corner.

Day at the Beach

One of our favorite things to do is go on walks along the beach with our boys. Since I use to live in Laguna Beach I know of little secret beaches that we like to sneak off to and let the boys run free.
Mac is our more daring one and will go fetch the ball in the water with no hesitation. But today was a big day for Jonas. His first time in the ocean going after the ball. He decided it just isn't his thing so that only lasted a short while. Mac on the other hand could do this game of fetch for hours.Mac and Jonas making new friends. They just love meeting and playing with other dogs.
What is it about sand sifting through your toes, the sounds of the waves crashing, the sun setting? Oh, ocean I love you!

An Early Christmas

I was so excited when the delivery man rang the doorbell. I came running down the stairs like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. It was a big day here in Forever Keep land. I tore open the package to find these beautiful letter pressed business cards. They turned out amazing. A big thanks goes out to Sally Ann from Invited Ink. She was so wonderful. She was a good listener and made my vision of not wanting just an ordinary business card come to life.

Chenee is our beautiful niece (2nd oldest of our nieces and nephews) who is growing up so quickly. Our family recently celebrated her 16th birthday. It was wonderful times at Bolsa Chica State Beach and at a neighborhood park (on another day). I think girls learn early on that their birthdays are to be celebrated on multiple days. haha

A little something about Chenee... she's smart, she's thoughtful, she's fun and trendy, she's athletic, and an overall joy to be around.

As part of her birthday I spent some time with her and the twins, Ashly and Alyssa, photographing them being silly. We hung out at The Irvine Spectrum and at other nearby places where the girls got a chance to pose in front of the camera. They're soooo cute and growing up way too fast!

Cousins + Best Friends = A lifetime of unforgettable memories.

This is Andrew, our oldest nephew, and he recently received his acceptance letter to the University of Southern California. Oh yeahhhhh... he's excited about going to the same school that some of his football heros have recently attended (the likes of Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart). He's also looking forward to attending a school with a rich history, which will be a great plateau for him in his endeavor to becoming a pediatrician. Wow... "Dr. Compton, paging Dr. Compton." ;) That's got a nice ring to it. It'll be nice to have a doctor in the family.

Please remember to keep Andrew in your prayers. As we all know... college can be tough (in many ways) as well as Los Angeles (especially around USC) isn't the most forgiving of places.

Andrew, we are truly proud of the young man that you have become. It has been a true joy to watch you grow up and you have set a great example for the rest of our nieces and nephews to follow. We're excited about your future and know that God will continue to keep you and guide you in your life. Please be safe, study hard and remember what your priorities are while you're at USC:

Karla + Bobby Part I

Finding that one special person that completes you, that loves you for exactly who you are and doesn't have an agenda on changing you isn't the easiest thing to find. I am sure some spend their entire lives searching for this perfect love but some are more fortunate. Take Karla, she is a strong women who knows who and what she wants in life and she isn't going to settle with less. That's what makes their story so special. There is no settling, there is no complications but just true raw love that happened by chance. By being at the right place at the right time as destiny would have it 6 years ago.
Bobby and Karla have been inseparable ever since. We spent the day in Hollywood (where they live) documenting this unique love they share. We had the most fabulous day ever.
We cannot wait for their wedding on October 11 at the beautiful Wattles Mansion in Los Angeles. We started the day off on the rooftop of their place that is located on Hollywood Blvd with the most gorgeous views ever. God has truly blessed me and my family with an amazing mother. And today is a special day for a special person. We celebrated my mother's birthday at one of her favorite places, Yamato, a teppan-style japanese restaurant with really great service and really good food. (Much better than Benihana for sure.) Later we surprised her with a Cricut Expressions machine that she has been wanting for some time. Now ALL of her thank you cards can be super fancy and personalized =) Just another tool in the toolbelt of an avid scrapper. Later, my dad surprised her with an even bigger gift, two weeks in Aruba. Nice!! We hope you have a fun and relaxing time . You deserve it.

Love in L.A.

Earlier this month we got the chance to spend some time with Tim and Cindy during their engagement shoot. They were both born and raised in Los Angeles so they decided that the city would be the appropriate place to have the shoot. We initially met at the home where Tim grew up (in Pico Rivera). We took a few warm up shots and got to meet Tim's neat grandfather. Thereafter, we were off to downtown L.A. where the traffic is busy but the cool locations are many. We just didn't realize that we'd be 86'd from so many of these locations.

We began at the Los Angeles Public Library and worked our way around to The Standard (a famous hotel and nightspot). We were able to get alot of cool shots in the library's garden and fountain areas but were kicked off the premises because the security thought that our cute couple may fall into the fountain. Right?! Next was The Standard where Tim and Cindy often hang out at the rooftop bar. Apparently, the rooftop architecture is so "special" that we weren't allowed to take our cameras inside. Oh well! So we decided to forgo the hotel and take more pictures in the streets of L.A. But we were even stopped, at one point, from shooting near a particular building. What's the deal with L.A.? Isn't this the land of movies and pictures? Anyways... Tim and Cindy were great throughout the shoot and simply rolled with the punches, making the best of the situation. Let's talk more about them instead.

Cindy is a store manager for Lucky Brand Jeans located in Hollywood. She's been working for Lucky for about a year or so and has been in the retail clothing industry for many years. Of course, she is quite the fashion expert and is in charge of both, hers and Tim's wardrobes. Cindy is vivacious, outgoing and simply fun to be around. We can understand how Tim fell in love with her.

Tim, on the other hand, is a little more quiet. But as the night went along he came out of his shell and truly was as fun as Cindy to shoot. Tim works as a police officer with the LAPD and he is also a reservist with the US Army, with his unit located in Santa Barbara. In fact, Tim's reserve unit will be deploying to the middle east in the next few months. This will be his second deployment to the war zone. Please remember to keep him in prayer so that he returns safely and back into Cindy's loving arms. Thank you, Tim, for your service.

The night ended at one of their favorite restaurants, Buca di Beppo in Pasadena. We had a great conversation and ate lots of yummy italian food. They serve the food in "family portions" so, needless to say, our bellies were very full. Thank you, Tim and Cindy, for a great evening. With that much fun how can we call it work?Tim's cool hot rod. He's still working on it but between the LAPD, the US Army Reserves, and Cindy where does he find the time? Congratulations, once again, Tim and Cindy. We look forward to "working" some more on your wedding day. You two are truly a pleasure to be around!

Soup in a Bread Bowl Proposal

We met Thomas and Amy earlier this year during their engagement shoot. They are definitely a fun couple who love the outdoors. Their hobbies include rock climbing, hiking and snowboarding (to name a few). As a matter of fact... he proposed to her while on a hike and told us about how, in order not to ruin the surprise, he obliged Amy with her request for soup in a bread bowl to be brought on their long hike. Too extravagant of a request? Not for a man in love. To her amazement, Amy got much more than soup that afternoon and the rest is history.Their wedding was full of beautiful colors: blues, reds, yellows, greens, aqua, orange, pink and violet... all in the setting of the Catalina Island beachside with the expanse of the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. Romantic?... To say the least. Congratulations Thomas and Amy! May God bless your marriage and the years to come.

Taking pictures of children is such a different experience than weddings. As I begin to do more portraits I am challenged by the varying avenues photography can lead to. Alexis was born to be in front of a camera. She has this little, sweet, sassy innocence about her that makes shooting her portrait so much fun. America's Next Top Model lookout! At the age of 5 she is already building quite the resume. Be sure to check out some of her modeling skills at Neige.

A Red Carpet Affair in San Juan Capistrano

The occasion... Madie B's 10th Birthday. The theme... a Hollywood Premier. And the night did not disappoint with the appropriate glitz, glamour and girls - "Hollywood Style." They started arriving around 6:00 p.m. (dropped off by their parents in their Mercedez Benz, Lexus and Hummers) and were greeted by Madison, the red carpet and the paparazzi. All dolled up like movie stars, the party goers walked the red carpet and were full of smiles for the exciting night ahead. Of course, the birthday girl was dressed to kill in her designer dress and gloves with a bright blue boa accessorizing the outfit. To think that not too many years ago she was just a cute little baby. Don't grow up too quickly Madie. Enjoy your childhood. These are truly precious moments.

Honor, Sacrifice and Bravery

Last summer we had the honor of volunteering at a homecoming event on Camp Pendleton, California, hosted by Cynthia Martinez of Words of Comfort, Hope & Promise. We helped welcome home hundreds of men and women returning from Iraq with a flag ceremony. This flag ceremony was like nothing I had ever seen. The flag was provided by Superflag and I love what they stand for - to bring patriotism, nationalism and American sentiment back into our society. There were over 150 volunteers who participated in the ceremony and on that afternoon patriotism was thick in the air as so many volunteers came together to make the day possible. What a wonderful day it was celebrating the service of our soldiers.As the soldiers’ faces made their way through the cheering rows of supporters a tear rolled down my face. I realized at that moment how disconnected I had been to the reality of the war in Iraq and how many lives were personally affected by it. You see… I am one that has a hard time watching the news and seeing all that is bad in this world, so on many occasions I disconnect. This disconnection changed that afternoon.

Being surrounded by the men and women of our armed forces I could not help but notice how young they were. Some seemed like boys still in high school causing my heart to be deeply moved. None of this seemed right but the reality of it all was brought to the forefront of my consciousness. Seeing them face-to-face and listening to their stories changed me forever and I instantly became connected to these brave souls. We pray for the many men and women fighting for our country today. And we do not forget the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made in risking each precious life for our freedoms and our nation. As Memorial Day commemorates we must also never forget the many U.S. soldiers who have given their lives while serving our country. We thank the families of our fallen heroes from the bottom of our hearts. We desire to continue our support for the soldiers and their families in any way possible.

On this day I learned more about the importance of not only staying connected to the world but also acting upon our beliefs. Thank you to all who do so - the volunteers, Superflag and most importantly our soldiers and their families.
